Student Chapter News
Kansas State University
Dear Mid-America Chapter of CMAA,
The Kansas State Chapter of Club Managers Association has been busy at the beginning of 2008. Thanks to your kind donation and support, our chapter was able to send five students to the World Conference in Orlando. While we were there we learned many new and creative ideas in club management and enjoyed networking with club managers from all over the world. At the World Conference, we entered three Student Idea Fair entries in the categories of "Fundraising", "Membership Programs", and "Creative Use of Technology". This was the student chapter first time in entering the Idea Fair contest. We were very pleased to find out that two of our three entries we were selected the best in their categories. We won the award for Best Fundraising Activity for our Travel & Dining Auction (www.kstatehms.com) as well as Best Membership Program for our all-inclusive New Student Handbook.
Currently, the student chapter is working on donations again for the 2008 Travel & Dining Auction. Last year, the auction rose over $18,000 to support students in the Hospitality Management Program. Over $6,000 of the amount raised went directly to CMAA!
A portion of this $6,000 went to help fund CMAA student members travel to attend the World Conference and the National Student Conference on Club Management, the remaining money is being saved so we can start a CMAA scholarship fund that will benefit students for years to come in helping to pay for the credit hours needed during their internship semester - and only to those students who work in clubs.
The CMAA student group receives the profit for any auction item they acquire. Many of you in the past have been very generous with donating wine, golf packages, dining packages, golf equipment, etc. Again this year we will be seeking your support. Many of you have received (or will be receiving) a letter asking for a donation for the event. Any item you donate is a tax deductible contribution and any donation is welcomed and appreciated. So far this year we have rounds of golf in Chicago, including hotel stays and limo transportation to and from the airport and several bottles of wine. But we need many more donations to match the amount raised last year. If you would like to donate an item, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Once again, thanks again for your support of K-State's CMAA student chapter.
Warm Regards,
President of Club Managers Association of America
